Watchmaker and genius inventor, Antoine LeCoultre was obsessed by precision and his spirit continues to drive the Manufacture’s watchmakers and engineers to this day. To celebrate this unique know how and heritage, we have unveiled four new interpretations of the Duometre, a watch collection created in 2007, embodying almost 200 years of the quest for precision. The perfect incarnation of the spirit of The Precision Pioneer.
HERITAGE
FROM THE GENESIS TO THE MASTERY OF PRECISION
It all began 400 years ago when Antoine LeCoultre family established itself to Le Sentier, at the heart of the Vallée de Joux. The land, rich in natural resources encouraged the development of a flourishing metallurgical tradition personified by the blacksmiths of the valley. Confined to their workshops during the long winter months, these craftsmen including Antoine LeCoultre leveraged their remarkable metal-working skills to learn the watchmaking trade. From these days and driven by our founder’s pioneering spirit, four emblematic dates mark Jaeger-LeCoultre relentless quest for precision, a central tenet of the Maison.
At Jaeger-LeCoultre, there is a deep held belief that it takes time, patience and effort to accomplish mastery in any field of human endeavour. For our watchmakers and craftsmen, precision is a core value and an endless quest to attain mastery in their area of expertise. A fascinating watchmaking adventure of precision described in four chapters starting with the Precision of Production, followed by the Precision of Chronometry and the Precision of Regulating Organs and ending with the Precision of Complications.

A BREAKTHROUGH IN PRECISION
Before the creation of the Duometre, adding complications to a watch movement seemed irreconcilable with accurate timekeeping. Invented and patented in 2007, the Duometre mechanism features two barrels and two independent gear trains: one for timekeeping and one for complications – linked to a single escapement. By separating the power supply in this way, the Duometre mechanism guarantees an exceptionally high degree of operating accuracy.
